Earlier this month, we joined hundreds of tech enthusiasts at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018, the world’s largest annual exhibition for the mobile industry. As always, the event featured top mobile operators, manufacturers, technology providers and vendors.
Up until 2006, the event took place in Cannes and was known as 3GSM World. Since 2011, the mega event has been held in Barcelona, and continually serves as the ideal launch platform for the biggest products of the year. This includes the latest range of smartphones, tablets, smartwatches and other connected devices.
Outside the consumer sphere, it also draws many industry heavyweights who talk about the future of mobile devices, and related technologies such as 5G, mobile chips, Artificial Intelligence and Virtual Reality. This year, #MWC2018 revolved around eight themes which represented the emerging trends that are relevant to multiple technology industries:
■ Future Services Provider
■ The Digital Consumer
■ The 4th Industrial Revolution
■ Content and Media
■ Tech in society
■ Applied AI
■ The Network
As part of our preparations for the event, we had the opportunity to work with our innovation team, and develop several stimulating demonstrations of Aricent’s technology expertise. Our excellent line-up of technology demonstrations at MWC 2018 included:
■ Intelligence at the Edge: A demonstration of how mobile operators can use edge computing capabilities with Artificial Intelligence for AR and VR monetization, using Microsoft’s HoloLens. Use cases involved real time object recognition for autonomous driving and intrusion detection.
■ Future of 5G: Intent Based Networking with Zero Human Touch: A demonstration of how ‘NetAnticipate’ from Aricent integrates Automation, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to enhance the mobile network of the future . The key features include:
- Data Driven Intent Modelling
- Intent Federation Engine
- Closed Loop Automation
- Natural Language Interface
■ The 5G Core: Aricent has developed a 5G core based on stateless and micro services architecture for 5G . The simulators demonstrated how the system can scale-up and scale-down to match capacity with orchestration capabilities.
■ Blockchain-based mobile security: Aricent displayed robust security solutions for mobile operators, including Blockchain-based solutions, security for IoT, DevOps and devices.
■ Behavior-Driven NFV Automation: A detailed demonstration of how TANTEM, a Test-as-a-Service framework creates on-demand NFV test environments, through a unified test portal and its lifecycle management with DevOps tools.
■ Video Optimization on Mobile Edge: Using a multi-access edge compute platform, Aricent showcased video optimization and analytics to boost Quality of Experience, and demonstrated the value of low latency applications.
As edge computing, artificial intelligence, security and blockchain dominates the technology landscape, Aricent continues to innovate and delight its customers in these niche areas. At #MWC 2018 we announced various new partnerships, technologies and capabilities that will fuel our endeavour to engineer the future. This was publicized through the following press coverage:
■ NB-IoT Capability within LTE Software Framework
■ MEC Technology Innovations to Drive New Revenue Streams for Service Providers
■ Intelligent Security Automation System – our new capability-HAVOC framework
■ A significant MoU with STC Solutions to Build a Centre of Excellence for SDN/NFV in Riyadh
■ Collaboration with Coriant to Deliver E2E SDN/NFV Capabilities for Network Operators
■ New Research Shows Blockchain Speeds Product Development for Mobile Operators
Thank you all for joining us in our exciting and progressive MWC journey over the years. We hope to see you all same time next year with a lot more to demonstrate in the cutting-edge technology areas.
