Enphase Energy is a NASDAQ-listed energy technology company headquartered in Petaluma, California. Enphase designs and manufactures software-driven home energy solutions that span solar generation, energy storage and web-based monitoring and control. Enphase has shipped about ten million micro solar inverters, known as "microinverters", sold primarily into the residential and commercial markets in North America, Europe and Australia.

Microinverters convert the direct current power from the solar panel (DC) directly into grid-compatible alternating current (AC) for use or export. Enphase was the first company to successfully commercialize the microinverter on a wide scale, and remains the market leader.
Aricent has been working with Enphase to provide cloud-native application development and digital product transformation services. Aricent is design and engineering partner with Enphase to help accelerate their digital product strategy by building capability to monitor and predict the health and performance of solar modules and microinverters.

The digital platform, Enlighten, further provides takes advantage of machine learning to spot and alert owners and installers about any deviation in performance, allowing for quick and hassle-free maintenance. The Enlighten Digital Platform runs on Ruby on Rails/Java and is hosted in Rackspace/AWS.

Aricent has played a critical role in the design, development and maintenance of the Enlighten Digital Platform including:

  • Design discussions, test-driven development and maintenance of Enlighten features
  • Complete ownership of AGF (Advanced Grid Function) and ReportGen (Envoy data simulator); driving end-to-end development of upcoming features
  • Design and development of Docker based solution for ReportGen.
  • Contributed in extensive documentation – ranging from proposals to design notes.
  • Agile SDLC using continuous integration with intermediate releases

Some of the core technologies used in this engagement include Ruby on Rails, MySQL, MongoDb, Redis/Resque, Rspec, Rackspace, AWS (Kinesis, DynamoDb, EC2, S3, SNS, SQS, ELB, Lambda), Java, JavaScript, Git, Airbrake, NewRelic, Agile SDLC, Jira, Continuous Integration (Go), Docker and Mac OSX.

Solution Overview

The solution leverages Amazon Web Services IoT platform features and services including Kinesis, DynamoDB, EC2, S3, SNS, SQS, ELB and Lambda to provide continuous monitoring and platform management, resulting in greater installer and owner productivity and system performance through hassle free maintenance.

Aricent helps innovators - from start-ups to Fortune 100 companies - transform their ideas into products that exploit opportunities in the long tail of the Internet of Things (IoT), which includes a multitude of potentially profitable and sustainable niche market segments.
